OverviewPosition Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a highly integrated packaging automation manufacturer specializing in custom-built machinery. This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering role focused on custom automation and packaging machine design
, with full ownership of the mechanical scope from concept through completion.
The ideal candidate will be able to operate independently within 3–6 months
, manage multiple projects, and collaborate closely with manufacturing, assembly, and controls teams in a fast-paced, on-site environment.
- Custom vertical and horizontal cartoners, case packers, and integrated packaging systems
- Fully automated machinery serving food, beverage, cosmetic, confectionery, and pharmaceutical markets
- Own the mechanical scope of projects from concept through build and completion
- Develop project timelines, define machine layouts, sections, and schedules
- Lead mechanical concept development and detailed design
- Create timing charts, machine flow diagrams, and mechanical concepts for controls integration
- Release designs to manufacturing and support assembly, debugging, and commissioning
- Troubleshoot and redesign machinery to improve performance and reliability
- Coordinate with internal manufacturing teams and external vendors
- Manage multiple projects concurrently once ramped up
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience (open to a wide range of experience levels up to 25 years)
- Proficiency in Solid Works (Solid Works PDM strongly preferred)
- Experience with timing charts, air diagrams, motors, gearboxes, and motion systems
- Ability to support and troubleshoot on the manufacturing floor
- Solid understanding of project ownership and execution
- Strong conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 10% (often less in practice)
- Experience with cartoning, case packing, or high-speed packaging equipment
- 10–15 years of hands-on mechanical design experience
- Exposure to international customers
- Additional language skills (Japanese or Serbian a plus, not required)
- Fully integrated engineering, manufacturing, and assembly all on-site
- Approximately 200,000+ sq. ft. of climate-controlled manufacturing space
- Highly collaborative, hands-on, team-player culture
- Engineers regularly work on the plant floor alongside manufacturing and assembly teams
- Strong emphasis on accountability, ownership, and long-term commitment
- Proven internal growth track record—many leaders started in junior engineering roles
