Job OverviewThe Creative Arts Therapist provides clinical group therapy and assessments to adult inpatients throughout their treatment. The role involves delivering creative art therapies in art, recreation, dance/movement, or drama to best serve the needs of adult psychiatric inpatients.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Creative Arts Modality
- Music therapy position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and must be within 8 months of receiving a Master’s
- Board certification eligible in Art, Dance/Movement, Drama, or Recreation Therapy
- Shift working, 8:00–4:00 pm
- Weekend/evening and some holiday coverage as needed
- Full‑time employment
- Participate in crisis management as directed
- Participate in treatment planning meetings, program participant/staff meetings, and group and community meetings as required
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and updating of treatment plans designed by staff
- Report behavioral and/or physical changes in condition to the program director per policy and procedure
- Maintain open communication with associates, participants, and families; work within a multifamily group when appropriate
- Assess social, perceptual, and physical skills and resources according to discipline‑specific standards
- Develop treatment interventions, both group and individual, utilizing an integrated theoretical framework to elicit expression, communication, and response from clients
- Increase self‑understanding and insight through symbolic exploration in creative arts modality
- Use diagnostic techniques beyond verbal assessment to gather information
- Build self‑esteem, problem‑solving skills, organization, and risk‑taking through creativity
- Integrate and sequence the creative process
- Resolve conflict via creative art modalities
- Teach relaxation techniques when indicated
- Assist in leisure time planning using knowledge of available resources
