The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative support for a project focusing on research and STEM student engagement, and to prepare the logistics to help the PI manage the consortium and perform related work. The project focuses on advanced manufacturing of nuclear security nanomaterials, nanosensors, and photocatalysts.
The RA will work closely with the PI to ensure project success by implementing the PI’s planning and helping him organize and oversee project activities within set timelines and budgets.
The RA will provide regular updates to the PI and help coordinate with external partners by organizing meetings and gathering documentation. He/She will mentor students participating in the project and provide support for their publication and presentation of project outcomes.
Additionally, the RA will help the PI prepare progress reports for the sponsor and collaborate on manuscript preparation for publication.
CompetenciesPosition requires strong skills in MS Office, MS Project (or similar), MS Teams, and Zoom Meeting software. It also requires good knowledge of administration and financial IT tools including People Admin, Banner, Chrome River, and Dynamic Forms.
Position requires a good record of MS degree level research experience in the fields of specialty such as:
- Materials fabrication, sample preparation, materials characterization (optical microscopy, electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods, nanoprobe analytical techniques, …)
- Computer simulation for materials and devices, or
- Machine learning for materials research
Position requires excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with faculty and students; strong technical and analytical skills; ability to write technical reports; and effective organizational and customer service skills necessary for a research‑oriented environment.
Minimum Training and ExperienceM.S. in Material Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 0–5 years of relevant experience in materials research administration.
