Safety and Security Officer

Overview

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is hiring a Security Officer in Elizabeth City, NC. This is a full‑time, permanent position (36–40 hours weekly, 8–12 hour rotating shifts). The schedule is 24/7, 365 days a year with off every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Elizabeth City, NC

• Patrol campuses and monitor activity in and around buildings
• Respond to routine and emergent situations appropriately
• Document daily activities via computer
• Conduct investigations, evaluate situations, and take steps for resolution
• Work collaboratively with team to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record (required)
• 1 year of security experience (required)
• Valid HANDLE WITH CARE (HWC) and Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certifications by IAHSS within 90 days of hire (required)
• Former military or law‑enforcement experience is preferred

Located in Elizabeth City, NC, the facility serves northeastern North Carolina with approximately 650 employees and 150 medical providers. The 182‑bed center offers 25 specialties and outpatient services. Construction began in 2022 on a new 88‑bed campus.
