Overview

Area Supervisor role at Ross Stores, Inc. The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors oversee opening and closing the Store, supervision of Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy to shop environment.

They ensure proper merchandise presentation and a clean work area, and execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
    • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
    • Maintains awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; immediately corrects or reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
    • Responsible for security of the building including entrance/exit control, EAS devices daily function check, Cash Office security, and guard against loss.
    • Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
    • Responsible for Customer safety including accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures.
    • Tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after-hours alarms when requested.
  • Customer Service
    • Treats all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
    • Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognizes Associates using Company recognition programs.
  • Personal and Store Brand
    • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
    • Maintains a professional appearance and ensures all Associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
    • Keeps all areas of the Store clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
    • Responsible for daily trash removal.
  • General Merchandising
    • Ensures recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching and follow-up.
    • Responsible for receiving merchandise and processing all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
    • Responsible for receipt of all non-merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
    • Responsible for cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms; assists with placement of merchandise on sales floor.
    • Ensures back-stock is secured and processed per Company policy; responsible for merchandising of department including back stock.
    • Works to reduce loss due to damage and ensures monthly presentation guidelines are followed.
    • Manages floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
    • Performs re-wraps as needed.
  • Loss Prevention
    • Acts in accordance with Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintains a strong customer service presence on the sales floor and heightens loss prevention awareness.
    • Demonstrates integrity and protects confidential information, cash and merchandise.
    • Ensures Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained; conducts security procedures as required.
    • Executes company best practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
  • Front End Supervision and Operations
    • Ensures Associates are executing company standards at the Front End and maintains pace and energy to expedite customer wait times.
    • Trains and coaches on cash registers, shortage control policies and Front End procedures; manages break schedules for backups.
    • Ensures all equipment is functioning properly and that Front End supplies are maintained; manages go-backs and signage; teaches "Scan and Bag" best practices.
  • Fitting Rooms
    • Maintains cleanliness of Fitting Rooms; audits garment tags and ensures go-back compliance; merchandise returns are properly ticketed and scanned.
  • Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
    • Ensures cash pulls and deposits follow policy;
      Front End control as needed; adheres to refund approvals and payroll processes as required.
    • Responsible for payroll administration including daily punch edits and scheduling compliance.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior Customer Service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk and move around the store for up to 100% of shift; regular bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching; ability to lift up to 25 lbs (and heavier with assistance as needed).
  • Ability to operate janitorial equipment and other store equipment as required.
