Overview
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES The purpose of this job is to manage the daily operations of the recreation division ensuring high-quality recreational programs and activities are delivered. This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Responsibilities- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Plans, facilitates, and supervises recreation programs; schedules programs and events; registers participants; maintains records and files; prepares reports.
- Manages the recreation division's budget, special events, athletics, activities, classes, programs, and staff.
- Organizes, administers, and supervises a variety of instructional classes.
- Formulates and executes administrative guidelines, processes, procedures, and policies.
- Develops departmental reports; assists in monitoring the departmental budget by tracking revenues and expenditures; and assists staff with managing their respective program budgets.
- Identifies funding sources to provide access to resources for unbudgeted projects, athletic equipment, apparel and programs.
- Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience & Special Requirements
Requires Bachelor’s degree in leisure science, physical education and four (4) years of experience in leading or managing recreation programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands- Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife; vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery.
- Requires the ability to become certified to provide CPR/First Aid.
- Must possess and maintain an appropriate, valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
