Position: Aircraft Mechanic I - Sheet Metal (Night Shift)

Yulista is looking for a Sheet Metal Mechanic I to join our night shift team in Elizabeth City, NC
. In this role, you'll troubleshoot malfunctions, repair structural components, and support modifications that keep our aircraft mission-ready.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Sheet Metal Mechanic troubleshoots malfunctions, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components. This worker reads and interprets technical maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, engineering data and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctions or damaged components.

This individual will repair, replace, and rebuild damage to aircraft structures or sheet metal systems, such as wings and fuselage and functional components including rigging and surface controls, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, rivet guns and drills. Prepare parts and items to locate defects; will prepare defective surfaces for successive operations by sanding, scraping, applying prepared solvents, and cleaning agents.

Will be required to follow work orders, as assigned by the Program Manager. All work is subject to Government Quality Assurance (QA) review in process and upon completion for compliance with requirements, instructions, specifications, shop practices and procedures. Shall work independently and complete all repairs and modifications in a timely manner with minimal rework or discrepancies noted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interface with Crew lead and other Technicians as required.
  • Install sheet metal & structures IAW instructions/drawings.
  • Install sheet metal & structures as required meeting customer needs.
  • Perform continuity and power checks.
  • Remove, inspect, repair, and reinstall aircraft parts/systems.
  • Annotate logbook and workbook entries IAW Coast Guard Manuals or other contractual guidance.
  • Maintain a high state of cleanliness and utilize a clean-as-you-go process when executing maintenance duties.
  • Comply with processes and procedures as per DHS/Department of Defense (DOD) documents and publications.
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day to day maintenance. Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Ability to demonstrate work methods and techniques.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply trade or administrative guides such as technical manuals, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, and other related documents.
  • Ability to lift, reach, bend, walk, pull, sit, stand, crouch, stoop, kneel and stretch for prolonged periods of time. May be required to work in cramped, awkward, and strained positions or required to climb ladders, work platforms, scaffolding and aircraft structures.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to follow appropriate safety procedures common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of specific hazardous materials and hazardous waste procedures is necessary, including the proper fitting and usage of protective gear and completion of related training.
  • Must be able to carry items up to 40 pounds or heavier with assistance from other workers or weightlifting devices.
  • May be required to wear cumbersome personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing for Hazardous Material operations.
  • Specialized experience in aviation sheet metal repair and experience related to USCG aircraft specific models is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Airbus Helicopters OEM manuals or similar OEM manuals with the ability to research maintenance history, procedures and component limitations is desired.
  • Technical capability/experience with aircraft, airframes, components, and substructures. Should include maintenance of primary, secondary, and tertiary structures.
  • Technical capability to assist in planned depot maintenance of USCG aviation assets.
  • Technical capability to deal with aircraft upgrades and aging aircraft sustainment issues. Experience with new component integration and developing repair or replacement strategies for airframes, components and/or substructures.
  • Capability to work in regulated areas with toxic materials present including hexavalent chromium and cadmium. This will include use of PPE such as protective clothing, respirator, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with USCG MH65 aircraft is highly desirable.
  • Experience in aircraft sheet metal structures to include maintenance and repair with a minimum of five years practical experience.
  • Ability to conduct research using USCG data systems such as Technical Manual Application System (TMAPS) and Microsoft Office Suite, or similar type systems. A minimum of five (5) years of practical experience is desired.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background screening
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
