Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitElizabeth City State University’s Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to high school students preparing to attend college. This federally funded program is also designed to motivate students academically and to provide opportunities for participants to improve their pre‑college performance and ultimately succeed in higher education pursuits.
Description of WorkUnder the supervision of the Coordinator of Upward Bound and the Director of Special Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties.
- Supervise high school students in an academic and residential environment
- Be responsible for a group of students
- Be able to conduct workshops and tutorial sessions, as needed
- Collaborate and follow instructions as delegated by the Coordinator or the Director
- Enforce program policies and procedures, carry out disciplinary procedures, and report situations to the Coordinator in a timely manner
- Develop or assist in the development of engaging and purposeful evening activities for students in a residential setting
- Conduct self in a professional manner and be positive for students in a residential setting
- Create a positive learning/residential environment for students
- Attend staff meetings
- Complete other assigned tasks or duties
- Must be an undergraduate student with a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or an adult with a 4‑year degree.
- Have excellent leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds (low‑income and first‑generation)
- Be flexible, enthusiastic and friendly.
- Be familiar with laws relating to minors.
- You must pass a criminal background check.
