Responsibilities
The Environmental Services Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness within the hospital and adjacent buildings, which may require traveling from one facility to another without assistance.
Complete assigned projects such as stripping, waxing, and refinishing of hard surface flooring; carpet extracting/bonnet buffing; and restorative scrub of ceramic tile.
Work individually and also in a team environment, complete other tasks as assigned, and respond to and initiate communication by phone, handheld radios, pagers, etc.
Under the general supervision of the EVS Director/Manager/Supervisor/Lead, duties include but are not limited to:
- Fill routine cleaning of the floors in the assigned facility in a neat and sanitary manner.
- Mop, sweep, scrub, and strip floors, and apply floor sealers and finishes.
- Perform full vacuuming in traffic areas and remove any visible debris on carpets.
- Spot‑clean carpets as needed, utilizing extraction and bonneting methods.
- Maintain hard floors with no build‑up in corners and provide dust mop.
- Polish floors using buffing products to restore high‑gloss shine and uniform appearance to traffic areas.
- Maintain and keep equipment clean and in good operational condition.
- Secure the work area with all safety signs.
- Report safety hazards as appropriate.
- Lock and unlock doors and windows to offices and other rooms as necessary; turn off lights when rooms are unoccupied.
- Work day, evening, or night shift as assigned.
- Perform work independently with normal supervision.
- Observe safety precautions at all times.
- Perform related work as directed.
- At the end of the shift, leave equipment clean and ready for use, including cleaning materials.
- One (1) year of knowledge within acute care hospital environmental service techniques, practices, and procedures is required. Preferably two years of Floor Tech experience in a healthcare setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to read, understand, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Apply common sense to follow instructions that were provided.
- Must be able to communicate and understand English.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $16.60 to $23.00.
The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, based on skill set, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
