Summary

Crisis Specialists perform crisis assessments for youth and families who are experiencing a mental health crisis as part of the Screening Assessment and Support Services (SASS) program. This position is on-call. Direct service to other duties is 80:20.

Responsibilities
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Provide Mobile Crisis Response and Crisis Intervention under Rule 132 and other Rule 140 services.
  • Accept crisis calls from the CARES portal within ten minutes of the call and provide a crisis screening to the client at the location requested.
  • Provide a crisis screening to the client at the location requested within 90 minutes of the initial CARES call. As part of the assessment, assess risk, presenting problem, social history, self-care habits, and family system. Complete intake forms and appropriate releases.
  • Network with collaterals on behalf of crisis/active clients, including referral and linkage, facilitation of level of care determination, and advocacy of a client’s rights within education, legal, state and mental health systems when indicated. Coordinate services with our own sub-contracted agencies.
Supervision
  • Must attend a minimum of 8 monthly group supervisions for the year.
  • Discuss cases with supervisor in clinical, individual and/or group supervision as needed.
Administrative
  • Complete and meet deadlines for all clinical paperwork for active and crisis clients.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for all agency administrative paperwork, including billing slips, time sheets, expense sheets and other agency reports.
  • Submit completed assessments within 24 hours.
  • Bill assessments within 7 days, or before the pay period ends.
  • Attend meetings as requested by supervisor and serve on Agency or Program Committees when requested.
  • Maintain a valid, unexpired Illinois driver7s license.
Community Education/Public Relations
  • Educate the community regarding the SASS program in the service area.
  • Facilitate positive networking relationships with community service providers and/or networks as assigned by supervisor.
Other Duties / Special Assignments / Projects
  • Fulfill agency training requirements and document all trainings; attend mandatory in-service trainings.
  • Assist in developing materials and participate in special community education projects/presentations as requested.
  • Pursue and maintain licensure and/or certification that is available and appropriate to educational/professional background.
  • Perform incidental business travel as needed.
  • Participate in agency Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Perform job responsibilities with a positive attitude and promote collegiality. Maintain FSA equipment.
Training
  • Complete annual training requirements and maintain IM-CAT certification and other required trainings.
  • Undergo ongoing training assigned by supervisor.
  • Receive training on private insurance and unfunded adults.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical and Environmental Considerations

The incumbent may travel by car for several minutes daily and is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, bend and drive. May need to climb stairs. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. The work environment is field-based with varying temperatures and noise levels and may include client homes, schools, libraries and community agencies. Some office time is possible.

  • Standing for long periods may be required in settings like hospitals without seating.
  • Other physical demands include sitting, walking, and carrying equipment.
  • Use of computers for approximately 85% of the time.
  • Some duties may be completed at home with supervisor approval; if in office, crisis workers share a common area with a shared workspace.
