Summary:
Crisis Specialists perform crisis assessments and case management services for youth and families who are experiencing a mental health crisis as part of the Screening Assessment and Support Services (SASS) program. This position is part-time (day and on-call availability required): 10-29 hours per week. Direct service to other duties ratio is 80:20.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Accept crisis calls from the CARES portal within ten minutes of the call and provide a crisis screening at the requested location. As part of the assessment, assess risk, presenting problem, social history, self-care habits, and family system. Complete intake forms.
- Provide Mobile Crisis Response, Crisis Intervention, and Case Management under Rule 132 and other Rule 140 services.
- Manage a small caseload identified as having minimal needs, assigned by the Manager of SASS Crisis Services and Manager of 590 Crisis Services. Include follow-up calls to screen for additional needs and risk, ensure resources are available, and communicate with supervisor if higher need is identified or if the case is out of scope. Close case if no further services are needed.
- Network with collaterals on behalf of crisis/active clients, including referrals and linkages, facilitating level of care decisions, and advocating a client’s rights within education, legal, state, and mental health systems when indicated. Coordinate services with sub-contracted agencies as needed.
- Must attend a minimum of 8 monthly group supervisions for the year.
- Discuss cases with supervisor in clinical, individual, and/or group supervision as needed.
- Complete and meet deadlines for all clinical paperwork for active and crisis clients.
- Complete and meet deadlines for all agency administrative paperwork, including billing slips, time sheets, expense sheets, and any other required reports.
- Submit completed assessments within 24 hours; bill assessments within 7 days or before the pay period ends.
- Attend meetings as requested by supervisor and serve on agency or program committees when requested.
- Hold a valid, unexpired Illinois driver’s license.
- Educate the community regarding the SASS program in the service area.
- Facilitate positive networking relationships with community service providers and networks as assigned by supervisor.
- Fulfill agency training requirements and attend mandatory in-service trainings.
- Develop materials and participate in special community education projects as requested by administration.
- Pursue and maintain licensure/certification appropriate to educational/professional background.
- Perform incidental business travel as needed; participate in Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Promote collegiality and maintain a positive attitude; collaborate with others.
- Maintain FSA equipment.
- Complete annual training requirements and maintain IM-CAT and IM+CANS certifications, plus applicable HFS trainings.
- Receive ongoing training as assigned by supervisor; training on private insurance and unfunded adults.

Physical And Environmental ConsiderationsThe incumbent may travel by car several minutes daily, and may need to walk, sit, stand, bend, drive, and occasionally climb stairs. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. The work environment is field-based with varying temperatures and noise levels; activities occur in clients’ homes, schools, libraries, community agencies, and some office time. Some standing may be required; use of computers for most work;
