Overview

Shift and schedule
  • 2 x 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
  • 2 x 8-hour shifts, flexible hours within night shift
Unit details

30 Bed CCU/IMCU

Primary Purpose

Assist PCC leadership with day-to-day operations to ensure high quality and cost-effective patient care.

Major Responsibilities
  • Serves in the role of Charge Nurse. Assigns patient and non-patient care in a safe, effective manner.
  • Maintains staffing requirements in accordance with established policies and patient volume.
  • Collaborates with physicians, management and other healthcare professionals to assure the delivery of quality care and high patient satisfaction.
  • Contributes to achieving system, site and unit goals by prioritizing duties and responsibilities.
  • Reports census, acuity and staffing at predetermined times; ensures accuracy.
  • Ensures Point of Care Testing/Code Carts/Code Boxes are accounted for.
  • Ensures appropriate supplies are available to staff via Lawson.
  • Monitors/edits Report Express reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promotes patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Practices Performance Improvement principles to contribute to positive patient outcomes.
  • Responds to patient and family concerns in a timely manner; refers complex issues to management.
  • Demonstrates support for unit performance improvement plans, indicators and outcomes; makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Assists in the Performance Improvement Process; maintains knowledge of Mission, Philosophy, Policies and Procedures.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to staff; collaborates to facilitate Care Management processes.
  • Models Service First and promotes Service First courtesy standards and scripts; facilitates Service Recovery.
  • Resolves problems and manages conflicts; supports a positive work environment and staff development.
  • Refers major rule violations/work performance issues to management via the chain of command.
  • Assists with data collection/tracking for staff education and in-service activities; develops staff competencies and checklists.
  • Facilitates staff attendance at in-services and provides appropriate unit coverage.
  • Coaches and mentors staff to foster growth and development.
  • Conducts timely performance discussions with staff subject to management review.
  • Assesses educational needs and coordinates orientation with the MCO and APN; supports professional goal setting.
  • Addresses minor disciplinary matters; consults management for formal action.
  • Maintains personal/professional growth and stays updated on current standards of care; pursues continuing education, including pediatric-specific hours where applicable.
  • Keeps abreast of professional development by participating in professional organizations and continuing education; maintains pediatric clinical expertise.
  • Serves on unit and hospital committees to increase knowledge and networking.
Licensure

Nurse, Registered (RN)

Education/Experience Required

Typically requires 3 years’ experience in the specialty area and may require specialty-focused continuing education and/or certifications based on department discretion.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Ability to assume charge/schedule coordinator role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse team.
  • Unit-specific knowledge and skills.
  • CPR, Illinois Licensed Professional Registered Nurse certification relative to specialty area, if applicable.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to travel locally.
  • Ability to work under stress and in difficult situations; resilient and flexible in changing environments.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and potential infectious diseases.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others; ability to make sound, timely decisions.
  • Ability to perform lifting and bending; understand age-specific patient needs and provide age-appropriate care.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
