Position OverviewThe Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to receive day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Stationary Engineer Chief. Maintains and repairs various mechanical systems and auxiliary and powerhouse equipment for the Elgin Mental Health Center. Installs, maintains, and repairs the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) operational systems.
Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals. Makes and records tests of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water and chilled water systems. Reports complaints and emergency calls to supervisor. Travels in performance of job duties.
- Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Stationary Engineer Chief and/or designee at the Elgin Mental Health Center.
- Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals.
- Makes and records tests of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water and chilled water systems.
- Reports complaints and emergency calls to supervisor.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
- Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
- Four (4) years of specialized experience in the operation of high-pressure/low-pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their apparatuses.
- Three (3) years of specialized experience in water treatment and various chemicals used in boiler systems.
