To provide assistance in the implementation of School Nutrition Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Additionally, adhere to School District U-46 and Food & Nutrition Services mission, vision, and values.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Supervise food service personnel in assigned elementary schools, ensuring full compliance with the day-to-day operations, required procedures, and HACCP procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of all Federal, State, and Local requirements as it pertains to the Dietary Guidelines for School Nutrition Programs.
- Adhere to policy on USDA professional standards and maintain accurate training records for assigned staff, ensuring full compliance.
- Coordinate efforts with Food Safety Coordinator on all HACCP policies and procedures, ensuring that the commissary and elementary schools are in 100% compliance with policies/procedures.
- Support the Food & Nutrition Services Administrators on all SEIU matters, including performance evaluations, grievances, training, interviewing, and adhering to policies set forth in the district's employee handbook and SEIU contract.
- Facilitate and coordinate staffing positions in elementary schools.
- Ensure that all required paperwork from elementary schools is completed timely and in adherence to department policy.
- Coordinate performance of Elementary School Nutrition Programs to ensure compliance within program operations.
- Facilitate marketing and promotional events to increase participation.
- Ability to manage day-to-day operations at multiple sites.
- Provide oversight and daily supervision for summer programming.
- Collaborate with Human Resources for hiring and onboarding of applicants.
- Establish and maintain Youth Advisory Council (YAC) programs and communications.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with building administrators.
- Establish and maintain expectations for direct reports and provide documented leadership and coaching adhering to Union and District guidelines.
- Assist Food & Nutrition Services Administrators with completing monthly inventory reports.
- Maintain confidentiality on all sensitive matters.
- Other duties as assigned by Food & Nutrition Services Administrators.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as a sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
- Current Illinois Driver's License.
- Earn and/or maintain School Nutrition Association certification level 1 or higher within the first year of employment.
- Minimum of four years' experience in supervisor level position within the Food Service Industry.
- Proficient in Google and other software in common usage.
- Capability to maintain complex records and express ideas and directives effectively, verbally and written.
- Strong ability to provide a high level of customer service to students, staff, parents, and team members.
- Knowledge of school nutrition, food storage methods, inventory methods, department policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to plan and organize work to maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge in culinary math, food costing, product evaluation, food waste metrics, and yields.
- Ability to set goals and establish process plans for completion.
- Indoors in a busy office environment with exposure to noise and communication.
- May be required to leave main work site to attend meetings.
- Public contact requires appropriate business-like apparel.
- Field-based position: reliable transportation and working in schools is required.
- Ability to work on a computer for 50% of scheduled shift.
- Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a very fast-paced and stressful environment with unscheduled interruptions.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in hot and cold conditions.

- The full salary range for this position is $45,257.00 - $67,885.00. Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($51,417.60).
