Depute Head Teacher

Elgin High School is a non‑denominational secondary school serving the community of Elgin South, including rural areas of Birnie, Longmorn and Miltonduff. As of September 2025 the roll was 816 pupils, predominantly in SIMD 4–8, with 15% eligible for free school meals and 13% from armed forces families.

• Assist and where necessary deputise for the Head Teacher in the conduct of the school’s affairs.
• Support the strategic direction, good management and leadership of the school.
• Contribute to school policy for behaviour management of pupils.
• Help manage staff: provide professional advice, guidance and ensure annual reviews of development needs.
• Assist in the management and development of the school curriculum.
• Act as an adviser to the Parent Council and participate in staff selection and appointment.
• Promote the Continuing Professional Development of all staff.
• Work in partnership with parents, other professionals, agencies and schools.
• Oversee health and safety within the school premises.

To be considered, candidates must meet the following:

• Experience at whole‑school level leading projects and teams.
• Understanding of "A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century" principles.
• Willingness to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme or undertake an update check.
• Ability to work within the regulations of the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.
• Relocation package may be available (£5 400, exclusive of VAT) for suitable candidates.
