Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and upkeep of City parks, grounds, athletic fields, trees and other park related facilities.
Responsibilities- Uses power tools and equipment and hand tools to perform limited aspects of park facility and grounds installation, maintenance and repair such as lawns, flower beds, trees, irrigation systems, walkways, parking areas, debris and trash removal.
- Assists in landscape maintenance duties including planting, pruning, mowing edging, digging, watering, repairing sprinklers, fertilizing and applying pesticides and weed abatement.
- Assists in the maintenance of athletic fields and playground equipment; assists in setting up, breaking down and general maintenance for City sponsored events and/or recreational activities; sweeps, cleans, and stocks rest rooms with supplies, cleans courts, walks, appliances and other recreational equipment and facilities.

Knowledge Of- Basic methods, materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
- Basic operation, maintenance and repair of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance and caretaking.
- Hazards and applicable safety precautions for equipment operation.
- Basic equipment capabilities, limitations, and safe operating characteristics.
- OSHA safety standards related to assigned tasks and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Performing unskilled and semi-skilled landscape construction and maintenance tasks.
- Operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used in grounds maintenance and caretaking.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, other City employees and the public.
A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience: Some grounds and facility maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Education: Graduation from high school or GED.
- License/Certificates: A valid California Driver s license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated.
- Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to weather conditions. Regularly required to lift and/or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
