CNC Machinist, Manufacturing Engineer, Production Manager
The Shop Floor Manager oversees day-to-day machining operations within a precision manufacturing environment serving Defense and Aerospace customers. This leader ensures that all CNC machining, manual machining, secondary operations, and related shop activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with rigorous industry, regulatory, and quality standards.
In this role, the Manager provides technical expertise in advanced CNC machining (3-, 4-, and 5-axis), directs and develops shop personnel, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures that all production goals, quality targets, and delivery requirements are met.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep multi-axis CNC expertise who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop machining personnel to ensure high performance and consistent quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members across all skill levels in both English and Spanish.
- Manage job assignments, machine scheduling, and resource allocation to meet production deadlines.
- Oversee expert-level setup and operation of 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machines for complex aerospace components.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, tooling requirements, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Programming, Engineering, Planning, QA/QC, and Production Control to resolve issues and optimize workflow.
- Review and update setup sheets, tool lists, and work instructions; implement improvements for efficiency and repeatability.
- Monitor machining performance, troubleshoot problems, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready shop floor in accordance with AS9100 and Defense industry requirements.
- Provide regular updates to management regarding production status, challenges, and resource needs.
- Manage attendance, overtime, workforce performance, and apply disciplinary actions when appropriate.
- 10–15 years of CNC machining experience with expert-level setup and operation of multi-axis equipment.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in precision manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of aerospace/defense machining standards and quality systems.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with AS9100, ITAR, and defense manufacturing compliance requirements.
- Technical certifications or formal machining training.
- Operation of CNC mills, lathes, grinders, saws, CMMs, deburring equipment, optical comparators, profilometers, and other precision tools.
- Expertise in GD&T, feeds & speeds, cutting tool selection, tool geometry, work holding, and machining strategies.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve machining, tooling, and programming issues efficiently.
- Minimum 50 hours per week on-site, including two Saturdays per month.
