The County of San Diego is hiring for Senior Departmental Human Resources Officer.

Some positions may have a teleworking and flexible schedule available after an initial training period and as special work projects permit.

Senior Departmental Human Resources Officer positions are allocated to various departments throughout the County of San Diego. This class is the advanced journey level professional class of the series. Incumbents are principal advisors to department heads and/or managers/supervisors on human resources matters; represent the appointing authority to employees, supervisors, employee representatives, the Civil Service Commission, staff, and supervise both professional and clerical staff.

The current vacancy is in the Sheriff’s Office; however, the eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies in other County Departments.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and a solid understanding of the concepts of Diversity and Inclusion; and the ability to embrace, incorporate,and promote these concepts during the course of work
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and a solid understanding of Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Have the ability to be self-motivated and work independently under minimal supervision and guidance
  • Have the ability to communicate and interact effectively with staff, managers, and individuals outside of the department at all levels of the organization; and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form
  • Have the ability to demonstrate a high degree of organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Have the ability to practice organizational acumen at all times
  • Have the ability to promote safe and healthy practices to departmental employees who work in a variety of settings and environments, including offices, laboratories, repair shops, medical/health facilities, and outdoor settings
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of hiring and recruitment techniques
  • Have the ability to assist and advise department staff on best hiring and recruitment practices
HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below:

  • Pre-employment Medical Screening:
    Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated

    Start Date:

    Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Candidates who are not selected will have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, and four (4) years of professional human resources experience.

Note:

A master's or doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience; OR, additional years of experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Evaluation:
