Job Type: Full-time, Non-exempt
Work Hours: 12‑hour shifts; 7 days in a two‑week period, including alternating weekends. Nights!
Work Setting: In‑person and Donor Service Area
Location: Employee may be assigned to a base office in Azusa, El Segundo, Orange, or Mission Hills
Travel: Employees are required to travel within our service area.
Summary Of Functions
The Procurement Transplant Coordinator (PTC‑II) is the clinical professional responsible for all aspects of the Organ Procurement Process at a hospital within One Legacy’s DSA and at a One Legacy Recovery Center. The PTC‑II’s responsibilities begin with assisting hospitals to identify and report potential donor referrals and proceed through the organ recovery procedure. The role requires direct medical donor care, assessment, resuscitation, physiologic management, organ allocation, documentation, packaging, and labeling of organs for transplant or research.
The PTC‑II supports donor families and conducts professional and public education presentations about organ, eye and tissue donation.
Duties And Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Respond promptly to potential donor referrals to assess suitability and enhance the donation process.
- Establish and enhance relationships with the hospital staff to increase referral activity.
- Introduce yourself to the referred patient’s bedside nurse and unit charge nurse, and maintain presence through departure.
- Collaborate with the RTS, CRS, SOP, Medical Director of Referral Management, and clinical leadership to manage active referrals.
- Access and review the referring hospital’s medical records, transcribe appropriate information to digital
DONOR fields per One Legacy policies. - Consult with hospital staff to evaluate organ function and identify early stages of medical derangements.
- Formulate a treatment plan in the direction of the Medical Director of Referral Management, advocating for interventions needed to preserve donation opportunity.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the attending physician, transplant physician, Medical Director, consulting intensivist, and CRS concerning the donor’s status and care.
- Develop and communicate a plan for continuity of care alongside the referral progression.
- Review medical‑legal documentation pertaining to brain‑death declaration for completeness and accuracy according to hospital policy and regulations.
- Perform administrative duties regarding the patient, such as completing digital
DONOR charting and other required forms. - Implement and maintain established policies, procedures, and quality assurance protocols, reporting to the transplant center, physician, resident, family members, and the public as appropriate.
Family Support Process
- Identify authorizing party and language requirements; document family dynamics and relevant information for approach.
- Collaborate with the hospital care team, RTS, and Family Care Specialist Resources in the end‑of‑life discussion to ensure the authorizing party receives appropriate donation opportunity.
- Discuss authorization elements with the authorizing party/family members.
- Obtain authorization per UAGA and verify medical‑legal documentation needed for organ recovery.
- Complete Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) and obtain follow‑up information.
Organ Donation Process
- Respond to donor referrals or assigned donor cases at shift start unless otherwise instructed by CRS/RTS.
- Obtain accurate medical information for evaluation and assess potential organ and tissue donors per One Legacy and regulatory guidelines.
