THIS RECRUITMENT IS ONLY FOR INDIVIDUALS CURRENTLY ATTENDING A CALIFORNIA POST BASIC POLICE ACADEMY

Position Title: Police Officer – Academy Attendee

Hourly Pay: $29.06 per hour.
Upon satisfactory graduation from the AP.O.S.T. Basic Course, successful graduates will be promoted to Police Officer with an hourly rate of $39.33 – $48.29 and an additional 10% education incentive potential.

Base Pay (2025): $29.06 per hour ($60,444.80 annually).
Base Pay (2026): $29.35 per hour ($61,048 annually).
Annual salary is based on working 2,080 hours per year.

Additional Pay (Upon Assignment and Eligibility)
  • Overtime — Paid at one and one-half times regular rate.
  • Bilingual Pay — $100 per month.
  • POST Certificate and Education Incentive Pay — 5% – 10%.
  • Canine Handler — 36.75% of base pay.
  • Field Training Officer (FTO) — 5%.
  • Longevity Pay — 2.5% at 8 years, 5% at 10 years, 7.5% at 12 years.
  • Medical‑in‑Lieu — $200 per month for employee only, $350 for employee plus one, $500 for family.
Benefits
  • Home Buying Program – $25,000 interest‑free loan for purchases within city limits.
  • Tuition Reimbursement – Up to $4,000 per fiscal year.
  • Holiday Pay – 14 holidays; shift personnel receive 9.33 hours of pay each month.
  • Vacation Leave – 80 hrs per year (first 4 years), 120 hrs after 4 years, 160 hrs after 10 years, 200 hrs after 15 years, 240 hrs after 22 years.
  • Vacation Credit – 120 hrs per year for those with 4+ years of prior public agency experience.
  • Vacation Cash Out – Eligible employees may cash out up to 80 hrs per year.
  • Sick Leave – 96 hrs per year.
  • Health Insurance – City pays a generous portion of the CalPERS medical premium (10 options). City pays 100% for dental and vision premiums.
  • Life Insurance – $50,000 policy and $1,500 for dependents.
  • Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) – City contributes $100 per month.
  • Long Term Disability – City pays 60% of base salary.
  • EAP – Confidential employee assistance plan.
  • Wellness Program – Access to peer support, gym, and on‑duty workout time.
  • Uniforms – All uniforms, equipment, and dry‑cleaning fees paid by the department.
  • Public Safety Family Counseling – For Police Department personnel.

Eligibility
  • Must currently be enrolled in a California Post Basic Police Academy and provide a letter of good standing.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment to Sworn Police Officer position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship prior to applying.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation (polygraph, psychological exam, fingerprint clearance).
  • Must pass a physical examination (drug screen) administered by a city‑appointed physician.
Working Conditions
  • Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Must pass a detailed background investigation.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, all weather conditions and difficult circumstances expected.
Physical Demands
  • Maintain POST physical standards, including mobility and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects.
  • Lift and move individuals or objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
