About General Galactic
General Galactic designs, develops, and builds advanced spacecraft to create the Galactic Armada, a fleet of spacecraft behind an orbital logistics network. Led by former Space
X, Varda, and Relativity engineers, our vision is to expand access to high-energy orbits across LEO, MEO, GEO, and cislunar space with our water-electrolysis based Genesis propulsion technology.
Based in El Segundo, California, we are developing paradigm-shifting propulsion systems that tightly integrate into the highest mobility satellite platform, ever. Our first orbital mission will fly in 2026.
Internship OverviewAs a Summer Engineering Intern, you will work directly with General Galactic’s founders and technical team on flight-critical projects. Interns are treated as engineers in their own right and are expected to take real ownership of scoped projects that result in new hardware, actionable test data, or flight-ready components.
What You’ll Work OnDepending on your background, interests, and the company’s program needs, you may work in one or more of the following areas:
- Chemical propulsion
- Electric propulsion
- Electrolysis & energy systems
- Avionics & electrical hardware
- Fluids, valves, and pressure systems
- Flight structures, mechanisms, and integration
- Propulsion system integration, testing, and performance characterization
- Development of avionics hardware, power electronics, sensors, and harnessing
- Development of electrolysis systems, fluid handling, and gas management hardware
- Design and build test fixtures, pressure systems, and experimental hardware
- Support structural design, CAD, fabrication, and hardware assembly
- Execute test campaigns, analyze results, troubleshoot failures, and iterate designs
- Work across disciplines to mature systems toward flight readiness
You will be expected to move quickly, reason from first principles, and operate effectively with incomplete information.
Basic Qualifications- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field
- Strong fundamentals in engineering analysis and physical systems
- Hands‑on experience with hardware, fabrication, or experimental systems
- Strong communication skills in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Los Angeles for the duration of the internship
(Not required—strong candidates may have experience in some, not all, areas)
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., Solid Works, Onshape, NX, Fusion)
- Experience with electronics, PCB layout, power electronics, or avionics hardware
- Experience with propulsion systems, fluids, pressure vessels, or thermal systems
- Experience building, assembling, or debugging physical hardware
- Experience with lab equipment, test stands, or instrumentation
- Prior involvement in rocketry, spacecraft, research labs, or hands‑on engineering teams
