At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (Level
6) to lead a new satellite program in our Phantom Works Innovative Solutions Division located in El Segundo, CA. Our multifaceted team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate mission‑enabling capabilities, beginning with technology investment and concept development, which lead to the design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
- Lead design decisions that provide best value to the customer by trading cost, schedule, and performance.
- Manage development by tracking program execution tasks and measuring successful execution.
- Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
- Effectively communicate program progress, risks, opportunities, and trade results.
- Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures, and set operational goals.
- Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
- Manage proposals and development, with a strong understanding of the Government System Acquisition Process.
- Lead efforts to define and execute implementation plans, and negotiate and build consensus across a diverse team.
- Collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze findings to develop conclusions and recommendations.
- Apply advanced knowledge of modeling techniques (mathematical modeling, simulation, design of experiments, operations research) to analyze a system.
- Understand the big picture and the inter‑relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area.
- TS/SCI active clearance required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 20+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in developing space hardware products.
- Experience in developing requirements and verification/validation plans.
- Experience in developing, building, and testing spacecraft payloads or vehicle buses.
- Experience in a dynamic rapid prototyping environment.
- Prior history working proprietary programs with a variety of government entities in a classified environment.
- Ability to work with a supplier and diverse distributed team.
- Integration and testing experience.
- Satellite vehicle or payload systems engineering.
- Proposal and systems engineering management plan development.
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). A clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.
