Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma, GED, or higher and at least 2 years of experience in heavy/diesel equipment maintenance and repair, or completion of a heavy/diesel equipment maintenance and repair program from an accredited college or university.
Licenses and Certificates- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
- Some positions may require a Texas Class “B” or Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent from another state within 12 months of appointment.
- Obtain and maintain at least two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Vehicle Certifications [T2‑T7] as specified in ASE’s Certification Test Series within 6 months of appointment.
- Some positions may require a Texas State Vehicle Inspector License within 6 months of appointment.
Positions requiring a CDL or safety‑sensitive positions are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.
General PurposeUnder general supervision, maintain and repair heavy city vehicles and equipment, gasoline and diesel‑powered heavy and light construction, and other power‑driven equipment, and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Typical DutiesMaintain, repair, and recondition heavy city vehicles and equipment; apply routine maintenance, diagnose and repair complex body components including hydraulic systems, electronic actuators, valves, and wiring; determine causes of equipment malfunctions; make necessary repairs or adjustments; disassemble and overhaul heavy equipment systems; test overhauled equipment; conduct safety checks; inspect and test completed work; prepare reports and maintain records; prepare requisitions and purchase orders for supplies.
