Summary
Perform preventive and emergency maintenance of various custodial equipment and power tools under the general supervision of the Custodial Facilitator in accordance with established priorities and policies. Tasks are similar in nature and require moderate use of individual analysis and judgment. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions- Perform preventive and emergency maintenance on custodial equipment, including but not limited to vacuums, shampooers, extractors, floor scrubbers, floor burnishers, wet/dry vacuums, battery‑operated scrubbers/buffers, pressure washers and similar equipment; able to work with various brands of equipment.
- Perform preventive and emergency maintenance of various power tools, including but not limited to hammer drills, demolition jack hammers, electric/battery drills, tiger/skill saws and similar equipment; able to work with various brands of tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and manufacturer specifications; troubleshoot small equipment electrical systems; able to install electronic system components, including electronic chips, brushes, capacitors, electrical cords, bearings; overhaul electrical motors, mechanical gear boxes, control modules and similar equipment parts.
- Able to use a variety of testing equipment such as voltmeters, amp meters, capacitance meters, ohmmeters, etc.
- Assist in evaluating cost‑effectiveness of repairing versus replacing equipment, and meet with campus and administration staff as necessary to review condition of equipment and future needs.
- Estimate time and material cost for repairs, and prepare an accurate material list; maintain service records on equipment.
- Be responsible for vehicle, vehicle inventory, materials, tools, and record keeping necessary to satisfactorily complete an assigned task; schedule required maintenance and inspections, and keep vehicle and work areas clean and orderly.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Custodial Equipment Mechanic; cooperate with coworkers and report necessary information to immediate supervisor.
- Participate in the specification and evaluation of competitive solicitations for repair parts and new equipment.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet the essential functions of the job.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required; five (5) years verifiable experience installing, repairing, troubleshooting and maintaining a wide variety of custodial equipment and other small power tools; technical training related to the position, preferred. Possess strong communication skills.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsMust be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting. Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; be insurable by the District’s auto liability insurance carrier;
subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.
