Trades Helper
Position within the Ysleta Independent School District Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department. Assist personnel in performing trade tasks while adhering to federal and state laws, district policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions- Able to assist in any trade area as assigned under direct or indirect supervision.
- Read, interpret, and follow all printed instructions by manufacturers for the use and/or repair of equipment district wide.
- Be responsible for vehicle and vehicle inventory (if assigned) and for materials, tools and equipment, including making adjustments and using safe operating procedures; request scheduling of required maintenance and inspections and keep vehicle, tools, equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
- Load and unload tools and materials and operate tools, equipment and machinery safely.
- Perform manual work needed to complete assigned tasks, to include general clean up.
- When assigned to a specific M&O department may perform duties as part of a crew/team under the direction of the assigned supervisor and complete repairs as directed on work orders or by assignment.
- Cooperate with other co-workers and routinely report any issues, concerns and/or necessary information to the immediate supervisor.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions related to grounds, maintenance and safety procedures; one (1) year experience in grounds or maintenance projects or related duties. Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.
MentalDemands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds frequently; must be able to work outside and inside, under all weather conditions, on slippery and uneven walking surfaces, frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, vibrations; must be able to work alone or with a team, regularly working irregular hours, occasional prolonged hours, and frequent district wide travel.
Must be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying. Have the ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted, and higher, with assistance; exposure to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner.
Occasionally may need to work on roof tops or other areas above the ground.
