Performs complex (journey-level) security enforcement work. Duties include monitoring and patrolling grounds; checking employees, youth, and visitors; inspecting and safeguarding property; maintaining facility security; and traffic control. Work is conducted under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. The role may require working in excess of 40 hours per week and being on call.
Essential Functions- Control entrances and exits to secured buildings; patrol grounds; monitor for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences; immediately report emergencies.
- Authorize entrance and departure of employees, youth, visitors, and other authorized personnel.
- Identify, report, confront, and/or apprehend persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry or exit.
- Greets visitors and maintains records of all persons entering/exiting.
- Ensure doors and windows are locked and lights operated as required.
- Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances.
- Report any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, or gender disparities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Comply with agency safety policies and procedures; report and correct hazards when possible.
- Complete required documentation for accidents/injuries within requested time frames.
- Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule per agency policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Level II or III security guard license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- Military police experience.
- Military experience.
Experience and Education Substitutions
- One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of college (30 course hours) on a year-for-year basis.
- Undergraduate course hours may substitute for up to four years of experience (30 course hours for one year of experience).
- Graduate course hours may substitute for up to two years of experience (12 graduate course hours for one year of experience).
- Pro‑rated part‑time experience may satisfy the experience requirement.
- All degrees, diplomas, high school equivalents, or course hours must be from an accredited institution.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license; failure to maintain required license will result in termination.
- Position is subject to mandatory pre‑employment drug testing; offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results.
