Detention Supervisor – AGS

Apply for the Detention Supervisor role  is looking for a Supervisor to work in El Paso, TX. The Supervisor is responsible for supervising detention officer staff to ensure the safety and security of detainees, staff, and visitors, and maintaining order in the facility. The Supervisor acts with the highest ethical standards, conducts all duties in a spirit of fairness and integrity, trains new officers, conducts performance evaluations, resolves conflicts, and ensures all records and logbooks are updated correctly and maintained.

The supervisor responds to emergencies and ensures compliance with facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the facility is secure, safe, and sanitary through inspections conducted each shift for all areas of responsibility.
  • Directs and evaluates the work of detention officers, assigns tasks, monitors performance, ensures posts are filled and officers understand post requirements.
  • Conducts post inspections, ensuring officers’ uniforms are compliant with policy, that the officer is trained for the post, and that the post is orderly and clean.
  • Corrects discrepancies on the spot as appropriate; reports major performance discrepancies to the Shift Commander.
  • Conducts facility inspections during each shift specifically looking for tampering, potential breaches, safety and security concerns.
  • Coordinates and ensures counts are cleared and accurate.
  • Oversees detainee activities, maintains discipline and resolves conflicts.
  • Assigns officers to specific posts, ensuring adequate staffing levels, and provides guidance and support.
  • Leads inspections, shakedowns, and detainee searches.
  • In coordination with facility leadership helps coordinate mock emergency drills.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides direction to officers responding.
  • Monitors all facility activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitors equipment and security systems.
  • Enforces rules and regulations and maintains order.
  • Responsible for assuring consistent delivery of service regardless of shift or location, taking immediate action to correct problems and responding whenever called upon.
  • Hands‑on monitoring of shift activities to ensure there is no officer clustering or inactivity – officers are utilized across the campus to fill all operational needs.
  • Coaches staff on verbal judo/de‑escalation techniques to ensure minimal use of force.
  • Ensures all incidents are appropriately documented and officer reports are reviewed for accuracy, grammar, and spelling prior to being submitted with final incident packages.
  • Reports any emergency to the Shift Commander.
  • Documents incidents with complete and accurate reports.
  • Oversees the review of sign‑in/out sheets to ensure proper timekeeping by Detention Officers.
  • Oversees break schedules and ensures that all Detention Officers receive breaks and proper relief.
  • Assists Detention Officers in dealing with any incident of disturbance or lack of cooperation from a detainee.
  • Administers first aid/CPR if needed to detainees, staff, or visitors.
  • Maintains safety and security of all facility operations.
Qualifications
  • US citizen or legally admitted permanent resident residing in the U.S. for the last five years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.
  • Pass a medical examination and meet health requirements, including drug screens.
  • At least 25 years of age.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a detention officer and two years of successful supervisory experience in a secure adult detention or correctional facility.
  • The two‑year requirement may be satisfied by completion of a career development program with equivalent work‑related experience, training, or college credits.
  • Knowledge and skills in ensuring maximum level of safety and security to protect detainees, staff and facility from fire, security breaches, while ensuring operation within established facility rules.
