Overview
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Sorting Room Worker for the El Paso Corps, located in El Paso, Texas.
Responsibilities- Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area.
- Assists store customers in donating, selecting and purchasing store items.
- Operates and maintains a cash register and responds to customer questions.
- Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
- Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year retail or warehouse experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
- Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
- Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
- Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
- Work is sometimes performed in a normal store environment with typical conditions; at times in a normal warehouse environment with related conditions.
