Overview
Responsible for food preparation, inspection of kitchen equipment, and safety and sanitation practices. Supervision of helpers. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.
Responsibilities- Prepare and serve a variety of main dishes, vegetables, and baked goods, using recipes and standard commercial cooking equipment.
- Inspect, clean, and sanitize equipment and work area.
- Supervise Child Nutrition Helpers in proper equipment maintenance and storage.
- Ensure the quality and presentation of food items are according to the highest standard by tasting food to ensure palatability according to Texas Public School Nutrition Policy.
- Record amount of food prepared and left over; store or dispose of food properly.
- Instruct Helpers in safety and sanitation practices.
- Supervise and organize work of Helpers assigned to a section.
- Plan and perform advance preparations for meals as indicated on Food Production Worksheet (take meat to thaw, etc.).
- Plan cooking schedules to have food prepared on time; serve food at the optimum temperature for palatability and safety.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred; possess current Food Handler's Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment with the district; three (3) years experience in food preparation in a food service setting or as a helper in Child Nutrition; supervisory experience preferred. Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English, possess strong organizational skills.
Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license/; subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
Have the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure. Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions. Continual standing and walking; must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder); moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
