Overview

This role is responsible for providing guidance and support to staff, maintaining a safe environment, ensuring patient throughput, and directing nursing staff. The charge nurse is responsible for the smooth and efficient patient flow within the unit, delegates assignments and provides supervision for the support staff in accordance with their level of training and the patient s acuity. The charge nurse works, in cooperation with medical providers to ensure the quality of patient care.

This role also provides direct clinical patient care. The role will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing direct clinical care to assigned patients on a per shift basis, and unit level. The role is responsible for supervision of staff to which appropriate care is delegated. The role is accountable to support CNO to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee patient admissions, transfers and discharges, mentor and train new staff while providing support and guidance to all staff members.
  • Monitor medical charts and administer compassionate care and assistance to patients and families; liaise with doctors and administrators and communicate any protocol changes to staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, and record and maintain accurate reports.
  • Provide high-quality, safe, cost-effective, total nursing care to all patients assigned; assume responsibility for coordination and integration of patient care based on the nursing process.
  • Direct care according to established standards of safety, risk management, quality improvement (QI), and Infection Control; focus on discharging the patient with an optimum level of care provided.
  • Coordinate and plan patient care within the prescribed medical regime; administer all medications safely and in a timely manner per hospital policy.
  • Perform and fulfill all Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed in emergencies and/or disasters; know the Hospital emergency codes and adhere to policies and procedures for each code.
Qualifications

Education:

Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred:
Bachelor s or master s degree in nursing.

Experience:

Required:

1 year of RN experience.

Certifications:

Required:

Currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice as required by law or state policy; AHA BLS, and if applicable by corporate policy for unit of hire, AHA ACLS and/or PALS and/or NRP.
