Overview

New Mexico Donor Services (NMDS) is seeking a Hospital Development Coordinator to join our team in Albuquerque. The role involves cultivating relationships with hospitals and healthcare professionals to promote organ donation and strengthen partnerships with hospital partners. Ideal candidates may have experience in healthcare, sales/marketing, public relations, or as a pharmaceutical representative.

Company overview and mission: NMDS is a designated organ procurement organization (OPO) within New Mexico and a member of the DCI Donor Services family. DCI Donor Services operates three organ procurement/tissue recovery organizations and supports life through the Gift of donation family-centered services.

Key responsibilities
  • Develops and implements a marketing plan that influences physician and hospital practice related to donor referrals and family counseling, with the aim of increasing organ and tissue donation in the assigned portfolio.
  • Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis of the hospital market to identify donor potential and engages decision-makers who can influence hospital protocols to align with best practices for donor referrals and family counseling.
  • Conducts education needs assessments for assigned hospitals and develops and implements an educational plan. Establishes multi-disciplinary councils within hospitals to achieve consensus on standards of practice for donor referrals and family counseling and request processes.
  • Identifies and engages decision-makers in hospitals (e.g., chairs of medical staff, medical executive committees, ethics and critical care committees, surgery and medicine departments, referring physicians and nurses) and coordinates meetings to gain support and plan next steps.
  • Provides field coaching and feedback to clinical coordinators on written and oral communications, public relations, and sales/negotiation skills.
  • Maintains relationships with referring physicians, nursing staff, and hospital leadership to support donor programs.
  • Disseminates and interprets data and research on organ and tissue donation to medical academic audiences and policy review committees.
  • Designs and conducts professional education programs and curricula for healthcare professionals; customizes materials for one-on-one discussions and large or small forums.
  • Responds to customer-service issues within the hospital portfolio and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Makes policy recommendations to hospital administration to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, increase referrals, and improve donation outcomes.
  • Develops and conducts accredited educational programs for healthcare professionals.
  • Supports internal staff and provides guidance on hospital relationships; maintains robust hospital profiles and ensures accurate documentation of hospital development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Travel within New Mexico and occasional travel to Albuquerque may be required; some duties may be performed onsite in New Mexico or El Paso, TX as applicable.

Qualifications

Education
: BA or BS in Business, Education, Public Health, or a healthcare-related field.

Experience
:

  • Two to four years of healthcare experience with families, counseling, bereavement, and/or crisis intervention; or 3–5 years of experience in hospital relations or OPO.
  • Experience with performance improvement strategies, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, hospital administrators).
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams or councils to improve hospital donation practices and family care.
  • Experience delivering hospital-based education or in-service training to clinical staff (nurses, physicians, administrators).
