USPI El Paso Center for Gastro & Endo is seeking a motivated Office Clerk to join our team. We have 1 OR room and 3 treatment rooms. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in gastroenterology. The position requires weekdays only—no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule is subject to change based on the surgical schedule and flow of the day.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Office Clerk is responsible for covering any aspect of the business office necessary. Many duties include answering the phone, front desk reception, data entry, insurance verification, patient calls, and chart scanning.
Job Duties- Verify insurance prior to patient arrival, including add‑ons and direct admits.
- Obtain pre‑certification from insurance companies for procedures that require pre‑certification.
- Request office notes from referring physicians if needed for authorization.
- Calculate and inform patients of the amount due.
- Communicate with the doctor's office.
- Ensure all required forms are placed in designated areas of the patient's chart.
- Prepare charts daily for the next day's surgeries within the required deadline.
- Make outbound collection calls to patients regarding their medical invoices/bills, answer questions, and set up payment or payment plans.
- Utilize various collection strategies and methodologies to negotiate payments in full or payment arrangements on debt within federal, state, and client collection guidelines and laws.
- Possess knowledge of health care financing and medical collections (preferred).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1–2 years of hospital or medical office experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use time wisely in preparing the work area to meet a high‑paced demand.
- Genuine desire to work and improve the facility as a whole.
- Extreme multitasking ability.
- Excellent phone etiquette and exceptional customer service skills.
