Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant assists the physical therapist in the practice of physical therapy. The assistant performs physical therapy treatment for inpatients designed to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body parts and to relieve pain as prescribed by physician according to the treatment plans.

Population served:
Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, orthopaedic, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc.

Essential Functions
  • Treats patients:
    Carries out treatment plan as directed by P.T., communicates changes in patient status to supervising P.T., applies appropriate physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities, utilizes rehab equipment safely, modifies treatment sessions when indicated.
  • Documentation:
    Completes documentation on the same day that treatment was rendered, documents on all appropriate forms, accuracy meets professional standards.
  • Supervision:
    Directs activities of PT technicians, students and volunteers, ensures proper treatment plans, initiates corrective action in conjunction with Physical Therapist when necessary.
  • Interdisciplinary interactions:
    Communicates with interdisciplinary team regarding patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, patients who may benefit from rehab services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required

Licensure/Certification s
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy examiners.
  • BCLS.
Required Education/Experience
  • Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant.
Preferred Education, Licensure, Certification, Experience, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Spanish language preferred.
