Mission and Role

The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals, and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. We are seeking to fill a Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) I-II position to join the Vocational Rehabilitation Department Borderplex MU 1-3, 8825 N Loop Drive, El Paso, Texas.

Position Details

TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

Responsibilities

The RA assists the assigned VR Counselors in providing services to customers to achieve successful employment outcomes. The RA provides basic information regarding VR programs, services, and referral information to customers and vendors.
General duties
:

  • Entry level human services/rehabilitation support; routine caseload support such as creating/maintaining/reviewing technical case management forms/files for accuracy in the electronic case management system.
  • Collect information for intake/profile process.
  • Maintain appropriate business relationships with providers/businesses/customers/staff.
  • Prepare/review reports for accuracy on monitored services.
  • Provide casework services/assistance to VR Counselors in certification of eligibility; service delivery tasks and use of the electronic case management system and other agency software; initial screening for VRS applicants.
  • Participate in Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) training.
  • Furnish information regarding Texas Workforce Solutions (TWS)/VRS programs, services and requirements to applicants/customers/families/vendors/businesses/the general public.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred qualifications
:

  • 18 months of office practices and office support experience in a Windows-based environment.
  • Experience in purchasing procedures; case guidelines, regulations, and policies; and case management support.
  • Knowledge of community and government service delivery systems; mental health and emotional aspects of illness.
  • Ability to interpret complex policies/procedures; maintain confidentiality; analyze financial data.
  • Skill in interviewing and conducting individual needs assessments.
  • Related work experience at all levels includes case management support, purchasing, and general knowledge of disabilities.

Minimum qualifications
:

  • RA I – One year of full-time qualifying experience in human services, social science, business, or related field, plus high school diploma or equivalent. Thirty (30) semester hours may substitute for experience.
  • RA II – Bachelor’s degree with major coursework plus 1.5 years of qualifying experience; one additional year of full-time qualifying experience may substitute for each 30 semester hours of education.
  • RA III – Bachelor’s degree with major coursework plus two years of qualifying experience; one additional year may substitute for each 30 semester hours of education.
  • Sr. RA – Bachelor’s degree with major coursework plus two years and six months of qualifying experience; one year may substitute for each 30 semester hours of education.
Additional notes

All levels: experience as a Rehabilitation Assistant must be in accordance with the agency’s career ladder requirements.

Position may involve hours outside 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday and travel up to 10% (including overnight travel). The method of transportation is the employee’s responsibility.
