Job Summary :
Pursuant to Act No. 2007‑503, the Personnel Board of Jefferson County (PBJC) is responsible for electing / appointing Member Number One to the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Supplemental Pension Board of Managers for the City of Birmingham. The member serves a four‑year term, attends monthly meetings, and is not compensated for service.

There is no compensation associated with this role.
Second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 PM. Meetings typically last 25–30 minutes, but no more than 90 minutes.
Minimum QualificationsA minimum of five consecutive years as an executive in insurance, actuarial science, investments, or banking, or as a certified public accountant immediately preceding appointment.
Key Responsibilities- Review monthly financial statements and annual audits prepared by the City.
- Record whether monthly participant and City contributions exceed or fall short of operating costs to identify surpluses or deficits.
- Review monthly investment reports to determine overall portfolio gains or losses.
- Engage with investment advisors on performance updates, strategies, and recommendations.
- Approve service pension applications, consulting with the Finance Department on any unusual or exceptional cases.
- Coordinate with Police and Fire representatives familiar with applicants.
- Attend monthly meetings and participate in presentations from current and prospective money managers.
- Contribute to transparent, well‑informed discussions that support prudent fund management.
