Operations Engineer, Systems Engineer, Procurement / Purchasing
The Sr. Capacity Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating short-, mid-, and long-term manufacturing capacity scenarios to ensure demand is aligned with the company’s available production assets. This role converts unconstrained demand into a feasible, capacity-constrained plan.
The role owns enterprise capacity analytics, balancing demand requirements against available plant, labor, and asset capacity, identifying risks and opportunities, and enabling proactive decision-making.
This position plays a critical role in the Supply Review by providing robust scenario planning, capacity risk assessments, and clear recommendations to align operations, sales, and executive leadership.
The Sr. Capacity Planner acts as a senior coordinator, translating complex data analyses into executive-ready insights, decisions, and escalation topics related to capacity, footprint optimization, and growth enablement.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities KPIS- Capacity Utilization vs. Plan
- Demand Coverage (Capacity-Constrained)
- Schedule of Coverage (SOC) Adherence
- Capacity Risk Exposure (Short / Mid / Long Term)
- Service Risk due to Capacity Constraints (indirect impact)
- DOS “ Days of Stock” Supply coverage
- DOH “ Days on Hand” finance
- Case Fill ( Indirect metric)
- Develop and maintain short-, mid-, and long-term capacity plans (0–18+ months) across the manufacturing network.
- Compare unconstrained demand against available capacity to identify constraints, bottlenecks, and structural gaps.
- Convert unconstrained demand into constrained demand based on asset, labor, and operational limitations.
- Build and maintain multiple capacity scenarios to evaluate demand changes, growth opportunities, and operational risks.
- Align with the Operations Leadership team on the official capacities and run rates that will be used to develop the capacity plan.
- Integrate new company projects and product launches into the Capacity Plan, working closely with the BUMs to identify and confirm risks or opportunities that can be communicated to customers.
- Integrate into the Capacity Plan any engineering or maintenance projects that could impact capacity, coordinating agreements with Engineering to ensure the required changes are implemented so the Capacity Plan can be met based on customer needs.
- Own and publish the monthly Schedule of Coverage (SOC), providing plants with clear visibility to expected production volumes over an 18-month horizon.
- Ensure SOC alignment with the approved demand plan and capacity assumptions.
- Communicate SOC changes, risks, and deviations to Operations, Supply Planning, and leadership teams.
- Lead discussions with the Finance team to ensure that the SOC is connected to plant cost-per-pound data, always seeking the optimal combination that delivers the best production cost and absorption across the plants.
- Ensure that the SOC is subsequently translated into MPS by all planners within the Supply Chain organization, and review and coordinate with them to confirm that short-term execution (S&OE) is aligned with long-term planning (S&OP).
- Identify, quantify, and prioritize capacity-related risks and opportunities across the network.
- Escalate short-, mid-, and long-term capacity risks with clear options, trade-offs, and recommendations.
- Translate analytical findings into concise executive-level presentations and decision documents.
- Provide capacity scenarios, constraints, and recommendations to support the monthly Supply Review.
- Enable demand confirmation discussions with Sales and customers through fact-based capacity scenarios.
- Support footprint and network optimization decisions by evaluating alternative production and asset allocation scenarios.
- Lead capacity planning discussions with manufacturing sites, ensuring alignment on assumptions, constraints, and plans.
- Own and facilitate labor planning meetings, aligning workforce plans with capacity and production requirements.
- Lead the Capacity Inbound Review (CIR), securing formal sign-off of the capacity plan with Operations leadership.
