RoleSummary
The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. This position is responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis. All activities support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.
Key Role Responsibilities – Core- Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
- Conducts regular walk‑through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
- Conducts safety audits on assigned projects, identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; utilizes internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement.
- Conducts project‑specific new hire orientation and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
- Monitors the implementation of prime contractor and subcontractor safety programs.
- Attends project pre‑planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety matters.
- Supports field leadership in implementing the safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees, and related activities; chairs the project safety committee.
- Assists in investigating project‑related accidents, determining root cause and recommending changes to eliminate recurrence.
- Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely return to work; compiles injury progress reports.
- Monitors the site safety incentive program.
- Possesses higher‑level safety knowledge and identifies complex safety hazards, providing advanced abatement solutions.
- Applies high‑level knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to make project‑specific safety recommendations.
- Communicates effectively and actively participates in meetings.
- Performs trend analysis using internal safety management systems to identify safety trends and recommend mitigation.
- Provides guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for project personnel.
- Assists safety leadership during insurance audits.
- Oversees more complex projects, including large or multiple projects; manages controlled insurance program projects.
- May develop and implement training strategies and processes to support training objectives.
- Might develop training needs assessments, gap analyses and strategic training plans.
- May analyze training needs to develop new and improve existing training programs using digital learning, classroom, skill qualifications, and on‑the‑job training.
- May assist with implementing technologies to enhance learning experiences, monitoring safety metrics and identifying improvement opportunities.
- May provide in‑person and virtual training sessions and ensure training record retention.
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations.
