Role Summary

The Project Engineer will complete and support routine construction and field execution responsibilities for construction projects, applying construction fundamentals and company best practice standards, processes, resources and tools. This role participates in various facets of the construction process, such as general construction management, punch lists and self-perform work, to understand the building process and how JE Dunn executes projects. All activities support the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Responsibilities

– Core
  • Learn and participate in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment and mentoring others.
  • Participate in project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
  • Learn and participate in estimating and change management processes and tools, including quantity take-off and review of subcontractor proposals.
  • Work on site with the project team to support tasks such as monitoring crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantities and equipment.
  • Participate in activities such as punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews and documentation preparation.
  • Post drawings and specifications with the most recent information.
  • Organize and participate in project meetings; prepare and disseminate required documentation as appropriate.
  • Prepare and manage a variety of reports (project daily reports, weekly progress reports, unit reporting, percentage complete, daily manpower, production schedules, equipment tracking) to support the project.
  • Perform periodic job site observations with project leadership.
  • Create procurement logs based on the project schedule and specification requirements; track shop drawings and follow up with deliveries as directed by the project team.
  • Provide progress updates and reports to the project team to support scheduling.
  • Support project close out, including punch lists, operations and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings, etc.
  • Utilize company best practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques.
  • Build relationships and develop communication with tradespeople and project team members (foreman, journeymen, superintendents, subcontractors, etc.).
  • Develop an understanding of various functions and support roles across the company and how each contributes to project success.
  • Collaborate and demonstrate teamwork in project settings and incorporate Lean practices into regular activities.
  • Learn about best practices for identifying, developing and integrating self-perform opportunities into the project.
Responsibilities – Additional Core
  • Participates in implementing project safety plans and maintains a culture of compliance through training, toolbox talks and communication with Safety Representatives.
  • Supports preparation of estimates, schedules, work plans, daily logs, etc.
  • Pre-plans crew activities, fulfills daily task plan requirements, completes look-ahead schedules and provides updates to the project superintendent.
  • Supports and/or completes job setup and project administration in CMiC and other company technologies.
  • Participates with the project team in managing subcontractor scope of work.
  • Coordinates with internal project support functions as directed by the project team.
  • Controls costs by evaluating and improving processes of assigned tasks.
  • Participates in project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
