POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for leading complex accounting analysis, technical research, financial reporting, and accounting policy development for a construction and government contracting environment. This role serves as the Company’s subject matter expert on GAAP, revenue recognition, and project-based accounting. This position partners closely with other departments to ensure accounting treatments are accurate, consistent, and audit defensible.
- Technical Accounting & Policy
Serve as the primary internal resource for complex and non-routine accounting matters. Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 and construction-specific accounting guidance. Prepare technical accounting memoranda supporting revenue recognition, contract modifications, claims, change orders, capitalization decisions, and other judgmental areas. Develop, formalize, and maintain the Company’s accounting policies and procedures. Monitor new accounting pronouncements and assess potential impact to the organization. - Revenue Recognition & Construction Accounting
Analyze construction and government contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition methodologies. Evaluate performance obligations, variable consideration, and contract modifications under ASC 606. Review percentage-of-completion calculations and cost-to-complete methodologies for compliance and consistency. Assess accounting treatment of contract assets, contract liabilities, retainage, and unbilled receivables. Analyze margin fluctuations and estimate revisions from a technical accounting perspective. - Financial Reporting
Lead preparation and technical review of GAAP-compliant financial statements and related disclosures. Ensure proper presentation of revenue recognition, significant estimates, and construction-related balances. Draft accounting position papers for external stakeholders, including auditors, lenders, and bonding agents. Support consolidated reporting requirements where applicable. - Complex Estimates & Internal Controls
Review significant accruals, contingencies, and judgmental estimates. Evaluate accounting treatment for loss contracts, disputes, and claims. Provide technical oversight on capitalization policies, depreciation methodologies, and project-related asset accounting. Strengthen internal controls over revenue recognition, WIP reporting, and significant accounting estimates. - Audit & Compliance Support
Serve as technical liaison for external auditors regarding accounting positions and financial reporting matters. Prepare and support technical documentation for financial statement audits and government-related audits (including DCAA, where applicable). Ensure accounting treatments align with FAR, DFARS, and government contract cost principles when applicable. - Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Accounting, Finance, Contracts, Compliance, and Project Management teams to evaluate accounting implications of operational decisions. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to accounting staff. Promote consistent application of accounting policies across projects and departments.

Education & Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA strongly preferred.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong background in technical accounting within construction, project-based, or government contracting environments
- Experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and supporting audits
- Public accounting experience preferred
Technical Skills
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and construction-specific accounting standards. Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred). Advanced Excel proficiency. Strong analytical, research, and documentation skills. Ability to communicate complex accounting matters clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to outdoor elements. May require occasional travel to job sites or other company locations.
