Job Description

The Gill Corporation is seeking a Scientist/Engineer II to be responsible for independently conducting laboratory project activities for the development of new products, processes, improvement of existing products and processes, and solving specific problems related to the manufacturing/quality of various products, seeking guidance from more senior employees as needed. Reporting to the R&D Manager, they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute a technical approach to a problem based on product specifications, problem statement and/or desired product improvement. Seeks input from more senior employees as needed.
  • Develop processes for the manufacturing of new or existing products and/or formulate resin systems or seek guidance from more senior employees on chemistry of resins as needed.
  • Interpret test results and other pertinent information to adjust formulation and/or process variables as needed.
  • Coordinate work with laboratory technicians, training with them as needed.
  • Record all formulations, observations and test results in detail and maintain the information in a manner such that other personnel could continue the project work. Perform all aspects of laboratory functions.
  • Coordinate and oversee production of new products, improvement of existing products and/or processes and problem-solving solutions. Seeks input from more senior employees as needed.
  • Perform analytical, physical and mechanical testing according to specifications and procedures. Seek guidance from more senior employees as needed.
  • Present data within and to other departments as required, seeking input from more senior employees as needed.
  • Have an understanding of the basic theory of composite material testing and behavior.
  • Make and execute recommendations for the improvement of manufacturing efficiencies, product quality, laboratory practices and safety issues.
  • Provide assistance to other departments as assigned.
  • Report project progress and prepare final reports at the conclusion of the project.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers on project status and product requirements. Seek guidance from more senior employees as needed.
  • Other essential duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in a scientific or engineering field.
  • Advanced degree or coursework desirable.
  • Training in composite technology or mechanical/analytical testing is expected.
  • At least two years of relevant experience working with composite materials or resin formulations in industry or academia (as part of Master’s or PhD Program).
