Position: Paid Drafting Intern
Overview

3-month Draftsman Trainee Internship for motivated candidates interested in learning the Structural Steel industry from the ground up. This internship is designed for individuals who may not yet have formal education or experience in drafting or construction, but who are eager to learn technical skills and grow into a long-term career.

Successful interns may be offered a full-time position upon completion.

Skills and Experience

What You'll Learn

During this internship, trainees will receive hands-on, on-the-job training in:

• AISC Detailing for Steel Construction
• Basic Drawing Reading & Technical Graphics
• CAD Detailing
• Data Entry for CNC Machines
• Document Control
• Document Processing & File Transmission

Key Responsibilities

• Create, read, and manipulate structural fabrication drawings
• Interpret technical documents and blueprints
• Perform data entry for fabrication and CNC systems
• Use drafting and construction software platforms
• Maintain document accuracy and organization
• Collaborate with drafting and engineering teams
• Learn and apply structural steel detailing standards

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Strong attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and accept feedback
• Ability to work independently and in a small team
• Intermediate math skills (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry)
• Advanced computer skills

Preferred (but not required):

• Technical Graphics or Drafting experience
• Relevant coursework or training
• Familiarity with construction or design software

Software Exposure

Candidates will train using software including:

• Autodesk
• Bluebeam Revu
• Microsoft Office
• Peddinghaus
• Shop Data
• SDS/2
• Tekla

Physical Requirements

• Sit and work at a computer approximately 6 hours per day
• Stand or walk periodically
• Occasionally handle rolls of structural drawings
• May enter the fabrication shop when needed
