Compensation

This position starts at $17.45 per hour. Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications. The starting pay is determined through our structured step‑guidance placement process, ensuring fair and consistent offers based on each candidate’s education, experience, specialized skills, and overall qualifications. Your exact starting rate will fall within the posted range and reflect your placement in the step‑guidance system.

• Position typically works four days a week, with ten‑hour workdays from Monday to Thursday (subject to emergency call‑back).

Maintains and operates equipment and performs various maintenance duties within the Public Works Department, including streets and infrastructure. Classification level will be based on mastery of skill and division needs.

• Assists in maintaining the streets, alleys, parking lots, storm drainage areas, etc.
• Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
• Assists in the installation and maintenance of city signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks.
• Performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter, and ramp installation and repair as required.

• Shows the desire to learn how to operate various heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoe, loader, trencher, dump trucks, and bobcat, ensuring the safety of self and others, and following proper operation procedures.

This is an entry‑level position; prior experience is not required. Employees are expected to acquire the necessary information and skills to perform the job satisfactorily within six months.

Possession of a valid Kansas Driver's License.

Possession of a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within the first 90 days of employment.
