Responsibilities- Assist with scheduling new patients and follow‑up visits as needed.
- Assist with collection of necessary patient information and medical records before the radiation oncologist sees the patient.
- Maintain patient charts as needed; provide copies of charts and other pertinent information required by the referring physician.
- Perform chart reviews after completion of treatments as requested by the department leader.
- Provide comfort and support to patients and families to help reduce anxieties.
- Perform venipuncture (phlebotomy) to collect lab specimens, process orders including verifying a valid diagnosis is documented, and transport specimens to the laboratory.
- Address billing and insurance questions and concerns; refer to the business office as needed. Assist in pre‑authorization process, including checking insurance eligibility via an eligibility system or software.
- Perform clerical duties: filing, typing, phone answering, and scanning orders and documents as necessary.
- Perform inventory and ordering of office supplies.
- Assist providers who practice in our facility with rooming patients, processing lab orders and collecting lab specimens as requested.
- Perform data entry into electronic records such as ARIA.
- Register patients in electronic medical records system (Meditech).
- Check in patients for radiation treatments and transport patients to and from exam rooms and treatment rooms as requested.
- Assist radiation therapist or radiation oncologist with positioning patients for treatment.
- Assist with imaging procedures under the direction of the radiation therapist.
- Prepare supplies, immobilization devices, and equipment for procedures and treatments.
- Maintain treatment rooms to ensure cleanliness, organization, and adequate stocking of supplies.
- Assist in Quality Assurance and performance improvement activities such as chart audits and reviews.
- Demonstrated keyboard skill of 35 words per minute, filing, telephone, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of billing procedures, insurance coverage, and payment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.
