Role Overview
The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for analyzing, developing, maintaining, and implementing automation and control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role is hands‑on and highly technical, supporting both day‑to‑day troubleshooting and long‑term system improvements within a chemical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support I/O devices connected to PLCs, including HMIs, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, and other automated‑process components.
- Assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting electrical, PLC, pneumatic, and other automated systems to meet production and safety goals.
- Respond with urgency to equipment breakdowns, emergency work orders, and assigned tasks, supporting maintenance teams as needed.
- Ensure control systems comply with regulatory requirements, including SIL and LOPA assessments.
- Maintain or create instrument and electrical drawings such as motor elementaries and instrument loop sheets.
- Maintain PLC documentation from equipment suppliers and ensure proper archiving of PLC programs and control drawings.
- Mentor technicians and technical staff on control system strategies, troubleshooting, and installations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to develop and maintain IT/OT systems and infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience.
- Hands‑on experience with Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation products.
- Understanding of IT and OT communication protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC, OPC UA, PROFINET, and ability to perform packet analysis.
- Knowledge of threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques in industrial control system environments.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to Industrial Control System environments.
- Working knowledge of PSM and DHS regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong time‑management discipline.
- Ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
