THE ROLEThe Assistant Principal of Middle School is a key member of the Invictus Leadership Team, responsible for driving both strong instructional outcomes and a positive, structured school culture for grades 7-8. In close partnership with the Principal, the Assistant Principal owns the vision for effective middle school teaching and learning while also serving as the primary steward of school culture, discipline, and student character development for the middle grades.
This dual-focus role requires an exceptional leader who can move seamlessly between coaching teachers to deliver rigorous, joyful instruction and holding high behavioral expectations for students through consistent, restorative, and relationship-driven practice. The quality of our school is defined by the quality of our team. In that spirit, we are seeking exceptional individuals to execute the following “essential job duties” and responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Coach, observe, and provide high-leverage, actionable feedback to middle school teachers to continuously improve instructional practice
- Build trust with teachers in service of supporting their development, using strong interpersonal skills and diverse coaching strategies
- Support teachers in using data to inform instruction and close student learning gaps
- Define academic rigor for middle school content areas and support teachers in achieving a high level of consistency across classrooms
- Develop and support all aspects of new teacher onboarding for middle school staff
- Develop and lead professional development and teacher collaboration focused on instruction, intellectual preparation, classroom management, and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Organize and facilitate Grade Level meetings for middle school teachers
- Support the coordination of benchmark, finals, and standardized testing, including data analysis protocols and re‑teaching plans
- Evaluate and oversee implementation of grading policies and systems in the middle grades
- Collaborate with Directors of Curriculum and Instruction to ensure alignment between middle and high school academic programming
- Support the Academic Counselor with the grading system and report card compilation for middle school students
- Collaborate with Leadership Team members to design and execute academic events, such as Semester Awards Night
- Serve as the primary Dean of Students for grades 7-8, managing all aspects of school culture, behavioral expectations, and discipline for the middle school
