Position: Registered Nurse - Operating Room Mainland - Per Diem

Overview

Responsibilities
  • The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care including inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The Registered Nurse is responsible to oversee any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan.
  • Care process components include:
    Assessment (identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data across patient, family, significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural factors);
    Planning (identification of problems and outcomes with a documented plan of care);
    Intervention (orders implemented in accordance with the plan of care and medical treatment plan);
    Evaluation (assessment of effectiveness, documentation of actions, and revision as needed).
  • Based upon assessment and reassessment, patients have problems identified and prioritized; goals are identified; education is aligned with problems and goals; employee may perform Limited Laboratory Services as needed, including specimen collection, processing, quality control, reporting and maintaining competency/certification.
  • Documentation and care activities are performed by licensed care providers within scope of practice, standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.
  • The Registered Nurse supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other patient care team members. Through educational activities, the Nurse pursues continued professional and personal growth.
Qualifications
  • Education / License: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required. BLS required. Valid NJ Driver's License required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
  • Experience: Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and will need to demonstrate skills within 30–60 days from date of hire.
  • Specialty Experience and Certification requirements vary by department and role. ACLS and other certifications may be required within specified time frames depending on assignment; ATCN/TNCC, PALS/ENPC, NIHSS, and related advanced certifications may be required based on unit.
  • Emergency Room and other specialty locations may list specific experience (e.g., 2–4 years medical/surgical experience, ER experience, NICU, Labor & Delivery, Radiology, Cardiovascular, Oncology, etc.) along with required certifications and timelines. Replace with unit-specific requirements as applicable.
  • Additional requirements include within 24 months of initial assignment: completion of associated trauma, stroke, and pediatric certifications as applicable; ongoing education requirements (e.g., 8 hours/year) as specified by department leadership.
Work Environment
  • Potential exposure to hospital environment hazards, blood borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
  • Physical demands include reaching, stooping, kneeling, standing and walking (including stairs), lifting 25–50 pounds frequently, and 50–100 pounds with assistance occasionally; pushing/pulling heavy equipment. Some departments may require color vision.
  • Electrophysiology lab notes: similar physical demands with additional requirements such as equipment handling, patient transport on stretchers, and working in confined spaces.

Core competencies are assessed across populations including Bariatric, Cath Lab, Critical Care, Behavioral Health, Dialysis, Endoscopy, Emergency Department, Intermediate Care, Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Wound Care, Structural Heart, Oncology infusion, PACU/SDS, PAT, Adolescent/Partial Programs, and others as applicable by unit.
