Description POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with physicians. The RN applies the nursing care process—assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation—to provide culturally competent care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary care plan and ensures consistency with the medical treatment plan.

Key components of the patient care process include:

  • Assessment – Identifying, gathering, and organizing subjective and objective data regarding the patient, family, and significant others, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects.
  • Planning – Identifying actual or potential problems, setting desired outcomes (goals), and documenting the plan of care that guides the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Intervention – Implementing interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and the medical treatment plan.
  • Evaluation – Determining the effectiveness of interventions, deciding on reassessment, and adjusting the care plan as needed. This step documents required actions and supports ongoing goal attainment.

The RN may be responsible for limited laboratory services, including specimen collection, quality control testing, and documentation of results.

Licensed and registered care providers must document assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation within their scope of practice and knowledge base. All patient care activities must comply with institutional standards and policies.

The RN actively supports performance‑improvement initiatives, leads other team members in patient care, and participates in ongoing professional development.
