The Registered Nurse is an interdisciplinary team member working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including the initiation of culturally competent continuum of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure consistency with the medical treatment plan.

• Assessment – Identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data regarding the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects.
• Planning – Identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that lead to a documented plan of care. The plan provides direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
• Intervention – Implementation of specific interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and the medical treatment plan.
• Evaluation – Determines effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and decides on the need for reassessment and revisions. Documents findings and required actions.
• Focus on problem prioritization relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational, and social status.
• Goal identification consistent with the problem to guide patient care and health promotion.
• Education aligned with identified problem and goals, emphasizing patient empowerment.

• Emergency Room – 2 years medical/surgical and/or ER experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months of hire or transfer. ATCN/TNCC within 24 months. Minimum 8 contact hours of basic trauma education annually. Minimum 8 contact hours of basic stroke education annually—completed by 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter. PALS or ENPC within 12 months of hire or transfer. Current staff required CPI by 6/30/24.
• Trauma Bay – Trauma experience required; 2 years preferred. ACLS, PALS & ATCN at time of hire.
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU/CTICU) – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care preferred. ACLS within 6 months. CCRN preferred.
• Cardiovascular ICU (CVU) – 2 years critical care preferred. ACLS within 6 months. CCRN preferred.
• Heart & Vascular Unit (HVU) – 2 years telemetry experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months.
• Harbor (PCU) – 2 years telemetry experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months.
• Pines/ Central – Medical/surgical experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months.
• Harmony – Medical/surgical experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months.
• Operating Room – Medical/surgical and OR experience preferred. All new OR team members must scrub and/or learn to scrub within six months. ACLS required by 12/31/24 for City OR RNs.
• PACU/Recovery – Critical care or PACU experience required. ACLS at time of hire or transfer. PALS within 6 months.
• Intervention Radiology – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; interventional & critical care preferred. ACLS at time of hire; PALS within 1 year.
• Cath Lab – Critical care, ER, cath‑lab or telemetry experience preferred. ACLS at time of hire; CNOR preferred. PALS, CCRN, & CGRN preferred.
• Endoscopy – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; endoscopy, telemetry & critical care preferred. ACLS within 6 months. PALS, CCRN, CGRN preferred.
• Radiation / Oncology – Oncology experience preferred. OCN preferred. ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Competency Provider required within 6 months. Radiation/Structural Heart specific competencies (phlebotomy, EKG, IV insertion).
• Labor & Delivery (L&D) – 2 years labor and delivery experience preferred. ACLS within 6 months. NRP within 1 year.
• Neonatal ICU (NICU) – 2 years NICU experience preferred. NRP within 1 year.
• Mother/Baby Unit (OB) – 2 years mother/baby experience preferred. NRP within 1 year.
