DescriptionSEMCON provides a highly qualified, professional, and responsive technical and managerial workforce to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s mission, vision, and goals. We seek a highly skilled and motivated PaaS Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain internal platform services that abstract infrastructure complexity and enable development teams to deploy and manage applications efficiently. This role focuses on automation, scalability, security, and operational excellence across IESP PaaS environments and requires experience working with National Airspace Systems (NAS) in all aspects of the Open Shift container deployment process.
Key Responsibilities- Design and evolve a secure, scalable, and resilient internal PaaS solution on top of on‑prem infrastructure (VMware vSphere and bare metal).
- Define platform standards, APIs, and integration points for internal teams.
- Evaluate and select approved FAA open‑source and commercial tools to support platform capabilities.
- Build self‑service capabilities for developers such as container orchestration, application runtimes, and databases as a service.
- Develop reusable automation scripts and infrastructure modules using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
- Standardize platform blueprints for application deployment including Helm charts, Kubernetes Operators, and Git Ops/Git Lab workflows.
- Deploy and operate highly available Open Shift and other Kubernetes clusters on the IESP platform.
- Manage cluster lifecycle activities including upgrades, capacity planning, monitoring, and security hardening.
- Support NAS system integration within containerized environments.
- Strong experience architecting and managing enterprise‑grade PaaS or platform engineering solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of Open Shift and Kubernetes administration in on‑prem environments.
- Experience with VMware vSphere and bare metal infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
- Experience designing API interfaces, platform standards, or reusable modules.
- Hands‑on experience with Git Ops, CI/CD workflows, and Kubernetes deployment patterns (Helm, Operators).
- Ability to evaluate tools, technologies, and integrations that align with FAA‑approved systems.
- Strong understanding of automation, scalability, and security best practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
A Bachelor’s degree and 11–15 years of experience are required.
