Registered Dietician - Outpatient Diabetes Educator

The dietitian is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in the outpatient diabetes education program. The dietitian utilizes the care process consistent with their license or certification, including initiation of interventions within their scope of practice. The dietitian oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure consistency with the medical treatment plan and incorporates diabetes education principles current to standards set by the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the American College of Endocrinologists for the management of type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

Licensed and registered care providers are responsible for utilizing the care process relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base; document the assessment, plan, intervention(s), and evaluation. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy. By participating in educational activities, the Dietitian contributes to ongoing professional and personal growth. This position participates in short- and long-term planning for physician services and supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating teamwork and cooperation.

• EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and graduate of an accredited program for Registered Dietitians;
  Master’s degree preferred. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required or CDCES eligible.
• LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Registered by the American Dietetic Association.
• EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience caring for people with diabetes in an outpatient setting.
• PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
• WORK ENVIRONMENT: Position requires considerable walking and standing. May require some occasional evening and weekend work. Essential functions of this position are listed on the department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
• REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to department leadership.
